Dear Trump Voters

I want to speak directly to people who voted for Donald Trump. You do not need to keep defending this. You made a mistake. It’s OK. We all make mistakes.

You were lied to. You were lied to by people you trusted. You don’t need to believe me. You don’t need to listen to anyone.

The evidence is all around you. This is not a game. This is not a joke. This is very serious. Please do not take this to be condescending because that is not how this is intended, but turn off Fox News. Turn off Newsmax. Stop listening to the podcasts and watching the YouTube videos from people who told you that Donald Trump is a genius. And that he is looking out for you. He’s not, and he isn’t.

Donald Trump has never been the person that Fox News tells you he is. You will reach this conclusion yourself if you simply turn off Fox News and all the rest and spend some time reflecting upon what you already know.

Get out of the house. Take a walk in the woods. Clear your head. Spend some time in reflection. Ask yourself, what is it that you really care about? Do you care about the country? Do you care about your family? Do you care about the future?

Or do you care only about winning arguments on social media and cheering for your political team? Ask yourself why you continue to defend Donald Trump. Is it because you have traded reason and independent thought for blind faith and loyalty? Is it because you have put tribal partisanship above patriotism? Is it because you have spent so much time defending him over the last 10 years that your identity is wrapped up with his? It is never too late to change your mind.

It is the mark of intelligence and strength of character to change your mind when the evidence and reason leads to the conclusion that you should. It takes strength to admit you were wrong. And you do not have to admit it publicly, but you should at least admit it to yourself.

There is freedom in admitting that you were wrong and acknowledging the truth. There is freedom in no longer having to defend that which you know is untrue. There is freedom it no longer having to defend a politician for whatever he says or does. He is a stranger. He doesn’t know you and he doesn’t care about you. You owe him no loyalty. You are an American. Your loyalty should be to your family. To your friends. And to your country. And the best way to serve them all is to acknowledge the truth. Acknowledge the truth before it is too late.
